The Distinguished Service Award in Equine Science is designed to recognize outstanding contributions in the field of equine science. This award is the most prestigious honor that the Equine Science Society (formally Equine Nutrition and Physiology Society) can bestow upon one of its members. Individuals receiving this award possess high moral character and have a record of outstanding accomplishments in teaching, research, and extension or service as it relates to advancement of the equine science and horse industry.
Each Distinguished Service Member recipient receives lifetime membership in the Society and receives one complimentary ESS Symposium registration for the following ESS Symposium (ticketed events excluded). Individuals that were named Distinguished Service Members prior to 2021 receive complimentary ESS Symposium registration for life (ticketed events excluded).
The Fellow Award recognizes distinguished service to the horse industry and to the society over a long period of time.
Each Fellow recipient receives lifetime membership in the Society and receives one complimentary ESS Symposium registration for the following ESS Symposium (ticketed events excluded). Individuals that were named Fellow prior to 2021 receive complimentary ESS Symposium registration for life (ticketed events excluded).
The Outstanding Equine Educator Award recognizes a society member involved in teaching, extension, or industry that has demonstrated excellence in the area of equine education either to students or persons in the industry.
The recipient of the Outstanding Equine Educator Award receives a plaque and monetary award.
The Outstanding Young Equine Professional Award recognizes an equine professional under the age of 40 that has made meritorious contributions to equine science either in teaching, research, extension, public service, or industry. In 2017, the award was named in honor of Josie Coverdale.
The recipient of the Outstanding Young Equine Professional Award receives a plaque and monetary award.
The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) Award in Equine Nutrition Research recognizes outstanding contributions.
The recipient of the AFIA Award in Equine Nutrition Research receives a plaque and monetary award.
The Equine Science Society (ESS) and American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) – Equine Science Award recognizes outstanding achievement in the areas of extension, research, teaching, or agribusiness in the equine industry.
