2023 ESS Symposium PRESENTATION PREPARATIONS

Congratulations on your abstract acceptance and your willingness to present your work at the 2023 ESS Symposium in Texas in June!

Full Oral Presentations

All graduate and undergraduate students, as well as regular section abstracts who selected oral presentations will prepare full oral presentations. The scheduled time for full oral presentations is 12 minutes, followed by 3 minutes for questions, discussion, and speaker transition.

Poster Presentations

All posters will be presented in both poster format, and a short oral presentation. The scheduled time for the short oral presentations of each poster is 3 minutes, followed by 2 minutes for questions, discussion, and speaker transition. Oral presentations should be done with the support of power point slides. Posters must be able to fit in a 4-foot by 4-foot space. Posters can be either created in portrait or landscape format. Posters can be set up the day before the Symposium begins (June 5) and must be set up by 4:00 pm on June 6 (first day of the Symposium). Posters will remain available for viewing until June 9 at 3:00 pm. Posters remaining after 3:00 pm on June 9 will be discarded. Pushpins will be provided.

All presentations, both full and short, should be prepared using a recent version of Microsoft PowerPoint and be PC-compatible. Presentations should be saved on a USB-drive for uploading to a Symposium computer. Presentations will be uploaded onsite before the start of the Symposium. Location details and specific upload times will be provided in the 2023 ESS Symposium Program.

Each session room will be equipped with a laptop computer (PC), LCD projector, screen, and podium. Most rooms will also have fixed microphones. With the exception of invited speakers, the use of personal computers is not permitted in session rooms.

All presentations and posters must indicate a funding source(s), if warranted, and a conflict of interest statement. All presentations and posters must also include a statement regarding their institution’s approval for use of animals and/or human subjects for research if necessary.

To assist students with preparing their presentations, ESS provides a student competition rubric. The rubric will be used by judges when evaluating presentations that are entered in the student competition.
