Description:
The M.S. in Horse Science at Middle Tennessee State University contains three concentrations of study: Equine Physiology, Equine Education, and Industry Management. Regardless of concentration, all M.S. degree candidates share a common core of coursework in research methods, statistics, and multiple disciplines in horse science and animal science. Equine Physiology students complete thesis research, while Equine Education and Industry Management students may select from thesis research or experiential learning projects. We offer a number of elective credit hours, permitting each student to customize the program with courses in other departments, research, and experiential learning opportunities. Graduate students receive educational guidance from 5 Horse Science faculty members, as well as hands-on experience managing facilities, performing research, teaching classes, assisting with coaching, and running top-notch events! While completing an M.S. in Horse Science, Teaching Assistantships are available to students, based on merit. Students who are funded via Assistantships have the opportunity to serve as a Teaching Assistant in Horse Science undergraduate courses, assist with farm management, and/or assist with coaching our nationally recognized Equestrian Team (IHSA), Stock Horse Team, or Horse Judging Team. Interested students are welcome to reach out to graduate program coordinator Alyssa Logan (alyssa.logan@mtsu.edu).
