Description:
The University of Tennessee Department of Animal Science is seeking a motivated graduate student for a 1/4 time assistantship position under the direction of Dr. Jennie Ivey. This opportunity is ideal for a candidate with experience and interest in collegiate horse judging, equine nutrition and physiology, and Extension.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop leadership and teaching skills while working closely with undergraduate students to achieve competitive success at regional and national horse judging contests. Position to start in Fall 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
• Coach the University of Tennessee Horse Judging Team
• Develop and execute practices to teach and improve students' horse judging skills and knowledge
• Coordinate team travel to and participation in regional and national horse judging competitions
• Support recruitment and outreach efforts to engage prospective students in horse judging activities
• Collaborate with department head and horse judging team advisor/course instructor to ensure alignment with departmental goals and objectives
• Assist with other equine-related educational activities and events as needed
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Equine Science, or a related field (completed by May 2025)
• Strong background in horse judging, with competitive collegiate experience preferred
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Enrollment or acceptance into a graduate program at the University of Tennessee
Compensation: The assistantship includes a ¼ time stipend, tuition, and student health insurance in accordance with University of Tennessee policies.
